Dianna Wells Design is a Melbourne-based graphic design studio, specialising in creative solutions for corporate and cultural clients. We aim to create work that is memorable, intelligent, carefully planned and meticulously crafted, in a visual language that clearly brands a client’s products, and inspires and informs its audience.
Design is a collaborative process. One of the studio’s strengths is our strong relationships we build with all our clients. By taking the time to research our clients’ organisations and needs, we can take them in new directions, and enhance the value of their products and services.
Dianna Wells
Creative Director
Dianna Wells studied at the Canberra School of Art and began her graphic design career by co-founding Another Planet Posters in Melbourne in the 1980s. Funded by the Australia Council, the studio designed and screen-printed posters on issues such as youth, housing and cultural identity. Dianna went on to work as a senior designer for the City of Melbourne in the early 1990s before founding Dianna Wells Design in 1994.
Dianna's personal interest in cultural identity inherent in natural and built environments and in creative and cultural organisations has led to DWD producing a number of award-winning projects. The studio's work has been recognised in the Australian Graphic Design Association National Awards, Museums Australia Publication Awards and the Australian Publishers Association National Awards.
The National Gallery of Australia, the State Library of Victoria and the Art Gallery of Western Australia have collected and exhibited Dianna's work. Dianna’s work has been published in a number of books and magazines, including Graphic Agitation (Phaidon), Poster Graphics (PIE Books) and Affiche. More recently, DWD's work has appeared in the AGDA Award Compendiums 2004 and 2006.
Dianna is a member of the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA). She served as an AGDA Councillor on the Victorian Chapter from 2006–07 and was a member of the AGDA National Awards committee in 2002.
As part of her voluntary work with AGDA, Dianna was instrumental in establishing the AGDA Student Council in Victoria, and First Five Out, an evening where professional designers share with students stories about their first five years after graduation. Another initiative was an exhibition of student posters titled So, do you come here often? Winning students were offered internships at design studios in Melbourne.
Dianna has lectured in graphic design at RMIT University and has been a member of their Program Advisory Committee in Graphic Design.
